What is HIPAA? The Health Information Portability & Accountability Act became a law in 1996. Known as HIPPA, it was designed to focus on simplifying the processing and distribution of medical information, improving the flexibility of health insurance, giving patients access to their medical information. It was also designed to protect patient data that is stored, processed, or transmitted across public networks. A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals’ health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public's health and well being.
The law allows Cascade Women’s Healthcare to use or disclose your protected health information in order to help us provide additional care for you to other medical facilities. It also allows CWHA to bill and collect payments for the services provided.
We comply with HIPAA guidelines. Unless you have given us written permission on your HIPPA statement, your information will not be discussed with anyone.
